West Village
The West Village is considered to be one of downtowns most desirable neighborhoods. In spite of economic fluctuations that hit other parts of the city, this neighborhood has remained steadfast in its pricing and it’s no wonder, this area is a cultural Mecca for artists, writers, intellectuals, activists, and just about anyone who possesses a unique way of thinking. The new introduction of the High line, which maintains an old NYC railway but has converted to park space, has only added to this neighborhoods enduring value. The village is also popularly known for being the home of New York University and Washington Square Park.
Walking down the streets, the West Village is reminiscent of an old European city such as Paris, or Rome. Cobble stoned streets, outdoor cafes, small theatres, low lying town homes, and tree lined blocks are only some of the distinguishing characteristics of this place. The Meatpacking District, now also a trendy location with well known restaurants such as Spice Market, is included in the West Village area.
