Murray Hill
Named after a Quaker family and hill that no longer exists, Murray Hill comprises a sizable area just south of what’s considered Midtown East along the East River. This mixed residential and commercial community has in recent years drawn large numbers of young professionals because of its continued affordablity and convenient access to both uptown and downtown.
The neighborhood’s commerce is concentrated on 3rd Ave where many trendy bars and clubs have opened. Housing options are side streets filled with old 19th-century brownstones and contemporary high-rise apartment buildings on the avenues and the East River. Highlights: Curry Hill, a cluster of Indian restaurants on Lexington Ave.
