Stuyvesant Town

Stuyvesant Town is a planned middle-income housing complex stretching from 14th St to 20th St and from 1st Ave to the East River. The complex was constructed after World War II to provide housing for the returning veterans and their families. Today Stuy Town and the neighboring Peter Cooper Village are home to twelve parks and multiple community facilities. The complex’s recent sale from Met Life to Tishman-Speyer was the largest real estate deal in US history. In the last decade, Stuy Town has been the focus of controversy regarding rent destabilization. A well located residential community, Stuy Town is extremely convenient to trendy communities such as the East Village and Union Square, and boasts excellent views of the East River.
