Gramercy
Gramercy is named after a small creek that once ran down the length of what is now East 21st street in Manhattan. Gramercy is a historic neighborhood noted for its beautiful architecture dating back to before the Civil War. Composed primarily of pre-war (and older!) buildings and townhouses, the neighborhood is centered around the exclusive Gramercy Park.
Very quiet and private, Gramercy still to this day invokes the refined atmosphere that dominated the era in which it was cultivated. In the 19th-and early 20th-century, the neighborhood was home to the city’s politicians and later performance and visual artists. Today’s residents are mostly professionals. Highlights: Gramercy Park
