Financial District
Once the historic Dutch settlement site of New Amsterdam, the Financial District currently houses the strongest financial center of the country, and arguably the world. Wall Street, the impending new World Trade tower, the New York Stock Exchange…it’s all clustered at the southern-most tip of Manhattan.
During the day, the Financial District is filled to the brim with financiers working in the thriving financial industry, as well as tourists visiting the historic South Street Seaport District and World Trade Tower site. Primarily a commercial neighborhood, the Financial District has a growing residential community brought about in large part by the efforts of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and other agencies.
