Fort Hamilton

The southern half of the neighborhood, from 86th Street to 101st Street and from New York Bay to Seventh Avenue and the Fort Hamilton army base, is sometimes referred to as a separate neighborhood, Fort Hamilton, though some long-time residents dispute this distinction. Fort Hamilton was once a village that sprouted up around the military installation, a briefly lived vacation destination and sister-village to Yellow Hook, the original name of Bay Ridge, in the north.
