Spring Outings in Manhattan, from Broderick to the Botanical Gardens

Mar 18, 2022

As the snow thaws and flowers bloom, New Yorkers are venturing out of their homes for the first time in months to enjoy the spring air. While our main focus at Modern Spaces is matching New Yorkers with homes around the outer boroughs, we know a thing or two about having a good time in the core of the Big Apple. Here are our top recommendations for spring outings around Manhattan this year!

When Broadway, Broderick, Parker, and Simon come together, you know you’re in for a New York treat. Catch real-life married couple Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker in legendary playwright Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite, which tells the tale of a trio of couples working it out in a swanky suite in the iconic Plaza Hotel over the course of three hilarious acts. The 1968 play is a Manhattan summer classic, and the current staging was delayed by the pandemic before premiering at the end of last month to rave reviews.

New Yorkers looking for a different kind of thrilling outing should start looking for tickets to one of the games at Madison Square Garden. Among other offerings, the venue has been home to nearly a hundred NCAA tournament games over the years, and the new Garden has been the epicenter of postseason play since 2014. While the Big East Tournament is currently underway, postseason tickets for April will become available soon, so fill out a bracket today and get ready to cheer in person in the finals.

And, of course, with spring weather comes the 19th annual Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Gardens. Designed by Jeff Leatham, the artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris and famed florist, this year’s event features orchids from around the world staged artistically within the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. The theme of this year’s installation is the kaleidoscope, and the flowers have been arranged to display the full range of captivating colors, including arrangements centered around a curving set of mirrors that capture and reflect hidden bulbs for all to see.

Once you’ve made the most of the long spring day, you’ll need a place to lay your head, and that’s where Modern Spaces comes in. Whether you’re in the market for a lofty glass cube with sweeping Manhattan skyline views or an intimate brick apartment with a private driveway, Modern Spaces is dedicated to finding your next home!
