Bushwick

Once a streetcar suburb, Bushwick has its own unique history and has seen a plethora of transitions throughout the last half century. It was once a hotbed for industrialists, but the 1977 New York City blackout left this neighborhood more devastated than any other. Still, it became an affordable home for many new immigrants who were priced out of the rest of the city. In the mid 2000s however, the “Bushwick Initiative” kick started by the city, started to bring a new vibe to this community. While there were only a handful of bars, coffee shops, and restaurants before, Bushwick now boasts the same amenities as some of its neighboring communities. Not to mention, creative spaces including art studios and music venues.
